Dr. Sylvia Lorek chair
Dr. Sylvia Lorek is working as a researcher and policy consultant for sustainable consumption since 1993. She holds a Ph.D. in consumer economics from the University of Helsinki. Before she has studied household economics and nutrition (Oecotrophologie) at University of Applied Science in Munster with focus on environmental and consumer consulting, as well as economics at the Open University Hagen, and the Universities of Munster and Duisburg. The combination of these two disciplines provides her with the tools - the individual micro-economic and the societal macroeconomic perspective - for a well-founded analysis of the contexts, in which the scientific and societal discourses about sustainable consumption take place. She is working with the Sustainable Europe Research Institute on studies and as consultant for national und international organisations. (OECD, EU, EEA, Wuppertal Institute, ProSus Norway etc.).
Since 2005 Sylvia Lorek is heading SERI Deutschland e.V. Before she worked as a researcher at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy and as communication officer at the KLJB, the Catholic Rural Youth Organisation in Germany.
Sylvia Lorek is working in close relationship with German and international NGOs engaged in sustainable consumption issues. For various year she co-ordinated the task force on lifestyle at the Northern Allicance for Sustainability (ANPED, now part of EEB). Durig the last years she turned towards more scientific networks. Actually she is an organising member of the Sustainable Consumption Research and Action Initiative (SCORAI) in Europe and is on the steering committee of the Global Research Forum for Sustainable Consumption and Production (GRF-SCP).
Sylvia Lorek is happily married with two grown up children.
