Josef Slezák researcher
Joseph Slezák is an independent researcher and project manager in the broader topic of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in a globalised world.
With educational background in the food industry, systems engineering, as well as in economics, in the last 12+ years Joseph has gained progressive experience in the design and management of relevant projects and initiatives, with focus on providing support to the review and development of related public policies and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
While the geographical coverage of his work focuses on the European Union (EU), both at the community and the Member States’ level, Joseph has worked to a considerable extent also in the countries of the Western Balkans, moreover, occasionally related to the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) region as well.
Between 2004 and 2008 Joseph was the member of the pool of experts of the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) Topic Centre on Resource and Waste Management (ETC/RWM), as a lead in the topic of the implementation of Integrated Product Policy (IPP) across the EU. Afterwards, between 2009 and 2011, he was the member of the pool of experts in the EEA’s Topic Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ETC/SCP), as a lead in the topic of national SCP policies in the EU.
Current research interest of Joseph include, inter alia:
- The implementation of Agenda 2030, with special focus on SCP, as a central and transformative strategy towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in a multi-stakeholder approach;
- National, as well as multilateral strategies and policies to further SCP, with special focus on the pan-European region;
- Beyond growth / beyond GDP / beyond efficiency initiatives, in the wider context of the debate at all levels of society on growth in transition and the importance of sustainable lifestyles
